The fog was thick like syrup I was squinting to see the lines hoping like hell the road would be kind in front of me In the city you never need to turn on your high beams to turn on your high beams I get lost in thinking just how long it's been It really don't mean nothing I just wonder about the change You can go from Town to City but they say you can't go the other way. My folks they sold their place I got no reason to come around my Pa never liked the city and the city was gaining ground it's not like you can blame him it's a far cry from what it was I get lost in thinking we just don't know when to stop It really don't mean nothing I just worry about the change You can go from Town to Country will it all turn out the same
2.
The young and wild are sure they'll never change but time has it's way what you love today is not what mattered then and the game is played with higher stakes The sound you hear when you're quiet is the bark of a dog in fear the animal inside is still taming and its last defense is to bite again Recall for me all those girls you left behind and all those long nights you'd wake up in the morning without a dollar to your name still you'd be alright you know know that, that sort of pace cannot be sustained if it could you'd know exactly where you'd be Remember the lighting The sound you hear when you're quiet is the sound of a mouse on a wheel the animal inside is still programmed for a time when no urge was denied

10 in the morning and the fog ain't lifting I guess I'll never learn a thing You live in this place you're gonna curse your weatherman water never flows upstream 10 in the morning and the fog ain't lifting I guess I'll never learn a thing Momma always said that you would meet your maker but He always had some place to be The baby stopped crying and momma's in heaven and you try to think of that would be Three square meals and the scent of a woman and a purpose and a place to be 10 in the morning and the fog ain't lifting I guess I'll never learn a thing Momma always said that you were far too social man the girls they would never leave Some problems they ain't worth solving I know men would kill for her long red hair and a spark like a meteor leaving light across the room The baby stopped crying and momma's in heaven and you try to think of that would be Three square meals and the scent of a woman and a purpose and a place to be 10 in the morning and the fog ain't lifting I guess I'll never learn a thing You live in this place you're gonna curse your weatherman then again it's always green

The lights blew out and you cursed the dark as if prayers like these could draw a crowd you got soft, yeah it's easy to do and I called to you for help The spark it came in the form of pain in your youth you craved but you could not attain you tried and tried to call them out Your voice is still on the machine The lights came on and your eyes adjust It's your daddy saying, "You can sleep when you're dead" you got lost, yeah it's easy to do she seemed willing to help The spark it came in the form of pain in your youth you craved but you could not attain you tried and tried to call them out Your voice is still on the machine

Skeptic 04:07
Hard work can keep a man sane a good woman will make you change not in the ways you fought all those years Your stubborn ways they will remain A skeptic is born again, and he has good reason In the shelter of her arms, You hold your tongue for now You can't change what a man believes He must do that on his own With momma gone, it will change the way you see it That god is hard-wired to a woman's soul A skeptic is born again, and he has good reason In the shelter of her arms, You hold your tongue for now
6.
Hummingbird 05:14
There's a hummingbird in the honeysuckle and a new baby on the way flowers bloom where her ashes were laid and the dog is on the chase maybe a day will come when we will use what we've been given force yourself to try again and remember a mother's love I don't need much to see this life through no scars to prove that it's true I don't want much I just want you
7.
There is more in common here than we care to name with all these lives that we've drawn in the sand which one do you blame Does your confinement give you freedom then it may be love where was shelter when you needed her most Out looking for doves This is not the beginning this is not the end This may be beyond us not for us to comprehend and so I put my faith into you and you as always in the lord above This was never my way we are looking for doves What brought you here is not for me to know that is beyond us know this is a place of growth

These things hold memories of when this was a one church town and you could make it just by working with your hands. These things that we pass on, like how to set the hook, how to walk in the woods and how to treat a lady kind. 55' Chevy Bel Air, She had the top down, her hair was streaming. I knew right then she would be your momma, I knew right then. I never should have sold that car, yeah but live demands, and so the occasion comes and you must let go. Our boys scattered to the wind, I hope their not alone, and they pick up the phone, in a young man's haste I sure can relate. This is my last request, live an honest life, with hard work and sacrifice, love is the gift we pass on.
